This building was captured at the law quad in downtown Ann Arbor. I had always heard about how beautiful the buildings were at the law quadrangle, so I knew that I had to check them out for myself. The buildings did not disappoint because they do look very majestic and castle-like. I tried to convey how well structured and designed this piece of architecture is with its intricate details and renaissance castle feel. The only problem I had while photographing them was the angles. I had a hard time picking out an angle that isolated the building, didn't include tree branches, and didn't show sidewalks or people.
These photos are of the Rackham Auditorium in downtown Ann Arbor. What intrigued me most about this building was it entrance. It certainly does look grand with it steps, the very large doors, and the windows. This auditorium has a very old-fashioned design that I think looks really beautiful. I zoomed in on the middle most doors and windows to convey how the different elements of this building work well together. The window and doors have these black bars around them, the building itself is cream, and there is a hint of green on the roof. The Rackham Auditorium was the easiest to photograph because there was plenty of room across the street from it to take photos and get a variety of angles.
This is the South Thayer building downtown. This building contrasted with all of its surrounding buildings because of its shape and color. It has this very concave shape and interestingly blue shaded windows. In these photos, I tried to isolate it as much as possible to really hone in on how different and modern this building looks. The only trouble I had was with the lighting. The sun was going down at this point, so the light wasn't the best.
This building is the North Quadrangle Residential and Academic Complex. I had already photographed other buildings that were more unique and different, so I wanted to photograph one that had a more basic design. I feel as if this building has a more classic look with the brick and window shapes. Although it has a more classic design, I though this complex still looked interesting with its one tall tower. The only problem that I encountered was the lighting. There is a huge shadow that is being cast on the building and it's not the most flattering. It is better to keep the sun behind you, rather than to the side or in front.
This building is actually still in the works of being built and doesn't have a name yet, but I thought it looked unique. It has this very convex shape like a cube and a very prominent orange color. This building is definitely more modern and sleek than the rest in Ann Arbor. I tried to show how much more innovative architects have become with their designs. The altering angles in each photo captures the full shape of the building. I took the photo around noon to get the best lighting that shows the building's true colors and reflections of the windows.
