Artist: Emily Blincoe
Personal Background: Emily Blincoe was born and raised in Austin, Texas. Growing up, she hated school because a classroom environment never allowed for her to freely express her creativity. She never went to college because of this. At the age of 22, her brother bought her a film camera. From this, she picked up the hobby of documenting her life through photos. It gave her the creative release she always sought after. She then bought her own canon rebel camera and began posting her photos on Instagram. Emily Blincoe began to gain a big following on her Instagram and she took the risk of quitting her job and becoming a full time photographer in 2013. Now she wakes up everyday with a grateful heart and a smile on her face because she is doing what she loves, which is something not everyone gets to do.
Style: This artist mostly photographs arrangements and portraits. She creates beautiful, colorful, and vibrant photos by creatively arranging everyday objects in neat and orderly collections based on size, shape, and color. This causes the overall visuals of her photos to be very soothing and satisfying. They also show that beautiful art can be made from anything. Her style can be similarly related to the time when realism art was created with still lifes. The arrangements she creates are planned out and organized like the still lifes artists painted back in the realism art era.
Philosophy: The major idea behind Emily Blincoe's images is mainly social. She feels that people often get wrapped up in creating images the world wants, or expects, instead of for themselves, so she mainly photographs for herself. Emily Blincoe feels that her inspiration is always changing, but some things that have remained constant in her photos are color, faces, little moments, and finding beauty in ordinary things. She believes that faces are timeless and worthy of capturing because all people are beautiful. Since we are all changing and growing all the time, Emily feels that a photo holds a place in time that can be looked back upon. She also created her arrangement series by accident. One day she started arranging objects neatly and it later became a way of telling a story of where she was and what was around her.
Influences: This photographer has influenced my work because it made me realize that photography is something that should be fun. I should photograph more things that interest me and make me happy. Your images shouldn't be created to constantly please others, but only to please yourself. Emily Blincoe makes me strive to have a mindset like that. I also want to emulate her style as closely as possible since hers is so personal and effortless.

Compare and Contrast: My images are very similar to Emily Blincoe's images because I recreated almost the same composition for each image and took it from an overhead viewpoint. The difference between the images is that Emily Blincoe's are much neater and more detailed. It took a lot of patience and effort for me to burn and align the matches to form a diagonal line and to sort out each individual Fruity Pebble by color. I also did not have access to all the resources she did. That is why there are less matches, lollipops, and cereal in my photos while hers has more. I also tried to replicate the same background that she did and they are very similar, but still obviously different. Although my images are very similar to hers, they don't really give off the satisfying and fun vibe that hers does. I still tried my best though.
Personal Artist Statement: Overall, recreating a photographers images, especially Emily Blincoe's, was very fun. I not only felt like I was replicating Emily Blincoe's images, but I felt as if I was just creating for myself. I've always really liked still life or arrangement photography, so using her images was the perfect outlet for me to do that. Even though I enjoyed it, it was still very challenging because a lot of planning and gathering of materials was needed. For my images, I chose to recreate some parts of her arrangement series. I wanted to capture the same level of vibrancy and fun in my photos that Emily Blincoe did. Each match, lollipop, or Fruity Pebble was placed in a way to balance the elements and draw focus to them. The images were arranged very neatly to create a certain pattern.
